There are many petroglyphs that attest to the millennia-old importance of wild horses in Galicia. These animals clear the mountains, open paths, help prevent wildfires, and protect domestic livestock from predators such as the wolf. However, the mares and wild horses so characteristic of our land are steadily declining. The local communities of the Groba and Sabucedo mountain ranges, with their own resources, organize the rapas or curros to safeguard these animals against health and environmental threats, as well as the spread of eucalyptus plantations and wind farms.
