The loss of inhabitants in Carballeda, in O Irixo, has many consequences. One of them is that, although it may seem trivial, it is increasingly difficult to find “ramistas,” the successors responsible for organizing the festivities. This is evidenced by Celsa (74), Digna (53), and Nerea (30), three generations of women from the same family who have witnessed the splendor of the festivities, their decline, and, more recently, their revival. The situation of the festivities in this area of O Carballiño region mirrors the loss of population, the weakening of community ties, the lack of connection to the land, and, ultimately, the absence of opportunities to build a life in the countryside. However, on the brink of emptiness, next year there will be a celebration.
